More on Pamela’s Talk

The convergence of affective technology, machine learning, and ubiquitous computing makes designing for emotion more important than ever. We’ve always had an emotional relationship with our internet things, whether we think of our phone as an extension of our self, a chatbot as a best friend, or a robot as a beloved pet. A decade from now, emotional interactions are likely to become the norm. We may not remember a time when we can’t just frown and our devices know that we’re dismayed.

So, as emotion-sensing technology is moving from an experimental phase to reality, maybe our internet things will start to understand us, picking up on social cues, responding to our moods, and cultivating emotion connection. What does it mean for how we design technology? How do we design AI that has empathy for us? In this session, we will look at where emotional AI is now and a framework for inventing an emotionally intelligent future.
